Roasted Red Bell Pepper Pizza with Breadsticks

Hi, everyone!

I hope you enjoy tonight’s post, because who doesn’t love pizza? 🙂

My boyfriend makes the dough, and he uses this recipe, by Mark Bittman.

The recipe is easy to make. The dough takes thirty minutes to two hours to rise, depending on how much time you have. For last week’s pizza, we took the thirty minute route.

The recipe makes enough dough for two 12″ inch pizzas, but we cut the dough in half, saving half for the pizza and the other for breadsticks.

On to the recipes!

The Pizza
You will need:
1/2 pizza dough recipe dough
1 pizza pan or stone*
Corn meal
¼ cup tomato or pizza sauce
½ cup mozzarella cheese
1 roasted red bell pepper

*If you are using a pizza stone, place it in the oven (while it is preheating) prior to placing dough on it.

1. Follow dough recipe instructions. We let ours rise for 2 hours. Cut dough in half, reserving one portion for
the pizza and the other for bread twists.
2. Preheat oven to 500 degrees.
3. Take out pan or stone (if stone, remove from the oven).
4. Sprinkle with cornmeal.
5. Place rolled out dough on pan.
6. For the sauce, you can use any pizza sauce or tomato sauce. I used tomato sauce and added oregano, salt and
black pepper. Spread onto dough. I prefer a lighter sauce, so I use about ¼ cup.
7. Top the sauce with mozzarella.
8. Add roasted red pepper.
9. Bake in oven about 7-9 minutes. until cheese is browned. We like ours to be a bit more crunchy, so we cook
ours a bit longer.
10. Remove and let cool at least 5 minutes before cutting.

Roasted Red Bell Pepper
You will need:
1 red bell pepper, washed
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 cookie sheet
Aluminum foil, to fit cookie sheet
1 medium mixing bowl
Plastic wrap, to fit bowl
1 cutting board
1 knife

1. Turn on the broiler in your oven.
2. Coat the red bell pepper with the extra-virgin olive oil.
3. Place under broiler. Let broil until blackened.
4. Remove and place in mixing bowl. Cover top of bowl with plastic wrap and set aside for 15 minutes.
5. Remove plastic wrap and place pepper on a cutting board.
6. Cut off top of pepper. Remove inside seeds.
7. Begin pulling off blackened skin. After removing the skin, cut the leftover pepper into strips.

The Breadsticks
You will need:
½ pizza dough recipe
2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
Oregano
Garlic powder
Sea salt
Black pepper
1 cookie sheet

1. Using the second half of dough, cut into strips. If you want to twist them, take two and twist together.
2. Place on cookie sheet.
3. In a small bowl, mix together extra-virgin olive oil, oregano, garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper.
4. Using a spoon, spread the mix onto breadsticks.
5. Bake in oven for 10 minutes at 350 degrees, or until browned.

Enjoy!
